What is the EV Managed Charging Program?
The EV Managed Charging Program helps manage electric load and optimize the grid in Clark County. This pilot program will help us better understand EV charging behavior in Clark County and help plan and prioritize system updates as EV adoption continues to grow. Participating EV owners will be included in scheduled charging events. These events typically last about four hours and will be scheduled several times each month through 2024. You will always have the ability to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience. During winter months (November, December, January, February, and March) managed charging events are scheduled to run Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Charging will be restricted during these times unless you opt out of an event. During summer months (June, July, August, and September) managed charging events are scheduled Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. unless you opt out.
How will this affect my charging schedule?
By participating in the program, you agree to allow Optiwatt in partnership with Clark Public Utilities to manage your vehicle’s charging. This includes participating in about 20 scheduled charging events per month, with each event lasting about four hours. You will have the opportunity to opt out of these events if participating would cause an inconvenience. Aside from the scheduled charging events, the Optiwatt app can help you conveniently optimize your charging while ensuring your car is charged when you need it.

Each participating electric vehicle will receive a $25 utility bill credit upon completing enrollment, and another $25 utility bill credit upon program completion at the end of 2024. Incentives will be provided as a bill credit directly on your Clark Public Utilities account. You will also receive free access to the Optiwatt app, which contains many valuable features for understanding and controlling your electric vehicle’s home charging. Participating customers can register up to two electric vehicles into the program.
Will participating in this program prevent me from charging my EV?
No. You will always have the option to opt-out of scheduled charging events. If you choose to use Optiwatt’s optional charging features, Optiwatt will prioritize your departure time and charge limit preference to ensure you always have the battery you need.
How long will the program last?
This program is scheduled to run through the end of 2024. Stay tuned for potential program extensions or additional program opportunities.
How do I participate in the program?
To participate, Clark Public Utilities customers may simply connect your EV to the Optiwatt mobile or desktop app and enable the EV Managed Charging Program enrollment toggle in the “Charging” section of the app. No additional steps are required – Optiwatt will automatically handle the rest. You can visit the program webpage to learn more and sign up.
How do I stop participating in the study?
If you decide to drop out of the program, you may do so easily in the EV Managed Charging Program card within the “Charging” tab of the mobile or desktop app. Alternatively, you may email support@optiwatt.com or EVcharging@clarkpud.com to end your enrollment at any time. Please note, dropping out of the program forfeits your second $25 bill credit incentive and you will not be able to reenroll in the program during 2024.
If I have more than one electric vehicle, am I eligible for two incentives?
Yes, you can receive the incentive for up to two battery electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in your household. To register additional vehicles, simply connect the vehicle to Optiwatt in the “Profile” section of the mobile app or desktop site and you will be automatically qualified.
